With the SLAs still in Pilot, AAC continues to work with education partners to provide feedback to Ministry. Specifically, AAC has expressed concerns regarding the following:
- protecting the intent of formative assessment;
- lack of clarity around key ideas of public assurance and accountability;
- lack of alignment of a significant number of SLA digital items with Programs of Study; and
- limitations of the digital platform to assess higher level skills with young students.
In an effort to support the original intent of the SLA as an “informative” beginning of the year assessment, AAC has submitted a proposal to Ministry for a conditional grant to develop a ‘proof of concept’ for a credible and cost effective alternative to the SLAs as they are currently constituted.
