Who Are We?
Alberta Assessment Consortium is . . .
- a not-for-profit registered society, funded by membership;
- a recognized education partner in the province of Alberta;
- an independent voice, able to provide an informed response to questions/issues
- that are in the best interests of student learning; and
- guided by five main purposes.
Purpose #1
Develop a broad range of assessment materials that are directly tied to the Alberta curriculum, based on grade level standards, and that will enhance student learning. AAC . . .
- maintains a practical website with links of interest, assessment tools and templates designed for classroom use; and
- develops performance assessments and rubrics, exemplars of student work, and unit plans modeling backward design.
Purpose #2
Provide support for leadership development in classroom assessment. AAC . . .
- provides support for jurisdiction and school-based leaders in nurturing quality classroom assessment practices; and
- enhances teacher leadership in classroom assessment.
Purpose #3
Support teachers and leaders by providing opportunities for quality professional learning. AAC . . .
- conducts a high quality fall conference that includes internationally recognized presenters, as well as teachers and leaders providing practical application of best practices;
- designs professional learning modules for membership use;
- creates practical AAC publications for teachers and leaders; and
- provides experienced facilitators to offer customized professional learning experiences on a fee for service (subsidized) basis.
Purpose #4
Facilitate networking and sharing knowledge, skills and expertise. AAC . . .
- maintains contact with an international network of assessment authorities;
- contributes to building assessment literacy through publications and research partnerships; and
- encourages purposeful connections among jurisdictions working on similar assessment related initiatives.
Purpose #5
Establish liaisons with other agencies. AAC . . .
- collaborates with ministry and education partners on projects of mutual interest; and
- provides an informed voice, responding to assessment questions and challenges within the Alberta context.
