AAC Research Initiatives and Partnerships
AAC: Contributing to Assessment Literacy in AlbertaIn addition to providing quality classroom assessment tools for teachers, the Alberta Assessment Consortium (AAC) also facilitates networking and sharing of assessment knowledge, skills and expertise. AAC maintains contact with an international network of assessment authorities and contributes to building assessment literacy in Alberta. In pursuit of this goal, AAC is currently in conversation with education partners to explore the feasibility of embarking on a series of action research/inquiry initiatives to support school jurisdictions with assessment related issues. Topics for consideration include the following. What impact might quality classroom assessment have on high school completion? What are key considerations when designing a system for reporting and communicating student learning? What support do school-based leaders need in order to support teachers in building classroom assessment capacity? An examination of the literature will provide the foundation for this work. It is anticipated that focus groups, interviews, professional learning experiences, and exemplars of classroom and leadership practice will provide insight into the application of the research to the Alberta context.
